1. Four common AI labels
AI made the main work.
AI changed or added part of a work.
The final work has AI-made parts and other parts.
The source type can cover AI and camera-made work. It does not prove that AI was used.
2. Where do the labels come from?
The record saves a Digital Source Type. This label tells how media was made. IPTC keeps the list. C2PA records can use the labels.
3. Why does the difference matter?
A photo with an AI-made sky is not the same as a picture made by AI. A film may use AI for one scene. People and cameras may make the rest. A clear label helps us see the difference.
4. Does a label prove the claim?
The digital seal helps show that the label has not changed. The signer is in charge of the claim. Check who signed the file. Check if you trust that signer.
5. What if no AI label appears?
No label does not prove that no AI was used. The maker may not have added the facts. The app may not work with the label. The file may also have lost its Provenance Record.
Good rule: Read the AI label, signer, file check, and source-file list as a group. One label cannot tell the full story.
